Fuzzy Logic and Applications

Time table

The lectures and the laboratories for FLA will be held in the weeks 1-7 from the second semester, according to the following time-table:

Syllabus

The syllabus of the FLA course in Englih and in Romanian.

Lectures

  • Introduction
  • Fuzzy sets. Operations with fuzzy sets
  • Extensions. The extension principle
  • How fuzzy is a fuzzy set ? Measure of fuzziness
  • Fuzzy relations
  • Fuzzy logic. Linguistic variables. Fuzzy inference .
  • Digital Fuzzy Logic Controllers (FLC). FLC architectures
  • An introduction to fuzzy arithmetic
  • Applications of fuzzy logic in computers and telecommunications (also at the lab)

    Lab works

If not otherwise specified, all assignments are individual !

    1. For grade 10 plus bonus points, possibly even enogh bonus points to recognize the exam: Using the OMNeT++ simulator, realize a simulation model where you will apply fuzzy logic for one the following problems. Also, make a presentation where to show the results obtained by simulation.

The OMNeT++ simulator can be downloaded from http://www.omnetpp.org ,where you can find also documentation, tutorials, examples, etc.

    2. For 5 or maximum 6 grade: will be discussed at the first lecture :-)
    3. For a maximum 9 or 10:

Chose one of the articles (papers) offered in electronic format on the web page of the LFA course , username: fl ; passwd: fl_2007 and make a power point presentation of approx 15-20 minutes of the the chosen paper.

In the presentation you may use figures from the chosen paper, but you are NOT allowed to use text, unless you put the text between quotation marks and you cite the paper.

The papers from certain categories (e.g. Fuzzy automata, fuzzy sequential circuits), and few other papers that have this explicitly specified, must be presented in the 3rd or 4th week. All other papers will be presented in the 5th or 6th week (but, on request, they can be presented in the 3rd or 4th week).

The file containing the presentation must be in .ppt, .pptx, or .pdf format, and must be uploaded on Virtual Campus before the presentantation.

Deadline for registration: March 9, 2025

The 7th week is only for re-works !
